Low yields, high quality - 2022 is a vintage born from extremes. After a rare hailstorm devastated 70% of the vineyard, the surviving grapes delivered intensity, purity, and aromatic brilliance. The result is a wine of bold character, rich fruit, and fine mineral tension.

The spring frost spared Charmail’s early-budding vines thanks to the estuary’s moderating influence. But persistent rain favored mildew, severely impacting the Merlot. The remaining grapes ripened slowly, favoring late-ripening varietals. As a result, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot dominate the blend, delivering a structured, elegant profile.
2020 completes a trio of remarkable vintages, and Charmail’s rendition is as bold as it is bright. With deep fruit, lively acidity, and a creamy texture, this wine captures the tension between summer heat and late-season freshness - modern Bordeaux at its best.
Despite a dry, hot summer, the vineyard remained balanced thanks to Charmail’s well-drained soils and careful vineyard management. Harvested early (September 18 to October 2), the grapes retained acidity and aromatic intensity. Winemaking focused on low-temperature extractions and a blend of ageing vessels, including concrete eggs for layered complexity.

Following a hot summer tempered by timely rains, the grapes reached perfect ripeness. Hand-picked between September 25 and October 11, the fruit was gently extracted and vinified with precision. Aging included both 500L barrels and concrete eggs, emphasizing purity and texture.
2018 marked the beginning of a trio of solar vintages in Bordeaux. At Charmail, a complex, concentrated wine was born from extreme conditions - torrential spring rains followed by an intensely dry summer. With precision harvesting and gentle extraction, Charmail 2018 is a bold yet balanced wine built to evolve.
The growing season began with challenges: mildew pressure and early summer hail reduced yields. But from July onward, uninterrupted sunshine enabled perfect phenolic maturity. Harvest stretched from September 20 to October 15, with each varietal picked at peak ripeness. A portion of the wine was aged in large-format barrels and concrete eggs, enhancing the wine’s complexity.
2017 was a vintage of resilience at Charmail. While Bordeaux faced severe frost and hailstorms, our vines - shielded by the estuary - were spared. The result: a charming, fruit-forward wine with supple tannins and freshness. Balanced, elegant, and immediately pleasing, the 2017 Charmail proves that beauty often emerges from adversity.
Though 2017 brought historic spring frosts and late-summer hail to Bordeaux, Charmail’s terroir was largely untouched. The harvest took place between September 18 and October 2. Cooler conditions helped retain acidity, while ripe Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot contributed structure and roundness. The wine was aged in 225L French oak barrels (33% new) and a small portion in concrete eggs, allowing for both aromatic purity and textural finesse.
