2022 was a turbulent year for Charmail, marked by a hailstorm that severely tested our vines. What survived is simply exceptional: ripe black fruit, subtle floral notes, and velvety tannins, all promising a magnificent vintage. Regular tastings confirm that the 2022 vintage will establish itself as one of Charmail's finest wines.

Fruit Burst

  • Appearance: Intense ruby ​​robe with bluish reflections, of beautiful depth.
  • Nose: Refined bouquet of blackberries and blueberries, enhanced with delicate floral notes of violet, with subtle nuances of cedar and sweet spices.
  • Palate: Rich and velvety texture, where silky tannins provide a sensation of smoothness. The finish is long and harmonious, marked by persistent freshness and subtle minerality, balancing power and finesse.

Viticulture
Chateau Charmail Viticulture

The Charmail vineyards experienced a difficult 2022 season, marked by a hailstorm that damaged part of the harvest. Despite this setback, the remaining plots benefited from meticulous management and a gradual conversion to organic farming. Techniques such as manual leaf removal and green harvesting were used to concentrate aromas and improve the quality of the grapes.

The harvest took place from September 19th to 29th, 2022, under clear skies that allowed the grapes to be picked at their optimal ripeness. Each bunch was carefully hand-selected to ensure that only the best fruit was used in the winemaking process, thus reflecting the potential of this unique vintage.

Vinification
Chateau Charmail Vinification

The wine was made at low temperatures to preserve the purity of the aromas. Gentle extractions allowed the complexity of the grape varieties to be revealed. The final blend combines the juicy and rich character of Merlot with the firm structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, while Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc contribute additional aromatic nuances.

82% of the production was aged for 12 months in 500-liter barrels, 50% of which were new oak. This method softens the tannins while imparting subtle notes of vanilla and caramel. The remaining 18% was aged in 17-hectoliter concrete eggs, promoting natural micro-oxygenation for a pure and vibrant fruit character.
